Open trays or locked compartments

Delivery robots for hospitality split into two families, and picking the right family matters more than picking the brand.

Open-tray robots work the dining room. Staff load plates at the pass, pick a table on the screen and the robot drives there. Guests or staff lift the plates off, and the robot comes back, often carrying dirty dishes. The PUDU BellaBot and KettyBot Pro, Keenon DINERBOT range and OrionStar LuckiBot and LuckiBot Pro are in this group.

Enclosed robots work the building. They carry room service, amenities, parcels or documents in compartments that open only for the right person, and they ride lifts between floors once connected to the lift system. The PUDU FlashBot Max, Keenon BUTLERBOT W3 and OrionStar LuckiBot Pro Autodoor are in this group.

Neither type carries plates up stairs, sets them on the table or talks a guest through the wine list. They take the walking out of the job so staff can spend more time with guests.

Which robot suits which venue

Small café or bistro with tight aisles. The DINERBOT T11 passes through 49 cm gaps and the T8 through 55 cm. The KettyBot Pro can manage 52 cm in some situations and adds a large screen for menus and offers.

Busy restaurant or hotel breakfast room. The BellaBot carries 40 kg over four trays and can be called by app, push button or watch. The DINERBOT T9 also carries 40 kg, with up to 18 hours of battery. Both need wider aisles, around 70 cm.

Function rooms and weddings. Load capacity and the ability to run several robots together matter most. Keenon's dispatching system lets several DINERBOTs share a floor. The LuckiBot Pro carries up to 60 kg.

Venues that want one robot to greet, guide and deliver. The KettyBot Pro and LuckiBot both have greeting, guiding and cruise modes. The DINERBOT T10 pairs a 40 kg load with a 23.8 inch screen. See also our reception robots guide.

Hotels, apartment blocks and offices with several floors. The FlashBot Max and BUTLERBOT W3 ride lifts and keep each order locked away. The FlashBot Max opens by password, phone number check or NFC. The W3 has an automatic door on each compartment. The LuckiBot Pro Autodoor gives a sealed compartment for private deliveries on one floor.

Check your floor before you choose

Most disappointing robot trials come down to the building, not the robot. Walk your route with a tape measure and check:

  1. The narrowest gap between tables, chairs pushed out and bar stools at a busy time, not in an empty room. Compare it with the robot's minimum aisle width.
  2. Thresholds, ramps and slopes. BellaBot and the DINERBOT T8 handle slopes of up to 5 degrees and the W3 up to 7 degrees. Steps are a no.
  3. Floor surfaces. Thick rugs, loose mats and polished floors can all affect a robot.
  4. Lighting and glass. Mirrors, glass walls and very dark corners can confuse sensors. Robots map these, but it is worth testing.
  5. Lifts. For multi-floor robots, compatibility has to be checked building by building. PUDU offers a cloud lift option for brands such as KONE and OTIS without modifying the lift, plus a hardware kit for others.
  6. Wi-Fi coverage along the whole route, and a sensible place for the charging dock.

05

What changes for staff

A delivery robot changes the shape of a shift. Staff at the pass load trays and send the robot; floor staff spend less time walking and more time taking orders, upselling and clearing.

Things that make it work:

  • A named owner for the robot on each shift, who charges it, clears blocked routes and resets it if needed.
  • Clear rules for who unloads at the table. Some venues let guests lift their own plates; others prefer a server to meet the robot.
  • Short training. Most staff learn the basics in one session. Our training and onboarding guide covers what to include.

If you are still deciding whether a robot makes sense at all, our delivery robots versus manual service comparison works through the numbers.

06

Costs and the extras people miss

Purchase guide prices run from $10,900 for a DINERBOT T8 or T9 to $19,995 for a FlashBot Max (USD, excluding tax and shipping, from Robots International). Before you compare on price alone, check what is included:

  • Docking stations. PUDU lists the KettyBot Pro docking station as a separate purchase.
  • Lift integration. Multi-floor robots may need a cloud service or hardware fitted to the lift, plus sign-off from whoever maintains the lift.
  • Callers and accessories. Push-button callers, watches or extra trays are often extras.
  • Warranty and support. Ask who repairs the robot, where spare parts come from and how long a repair takes.

Count the robot's real working hours, not the brochure run-time, and compare it with the time staff currently spend walking plates.

07

Trying one through Rentabot

All of these robots can be bought outright through Robots International, which Rentabot is an affiliate of. Each robot page links to the current listing.

If you would like to try before you buy, send us a rental request with your venue, dates and the job you have in mind. We source rental units through reseller partners case by case, so availability varies and pricing is on quote. A trial over a few busy services is the best way to find out whether your floor and your team suit a robot.
